ROAMING REESE

Virginia, How I Imagined It

Miles: 13.4

Yeah I know I just was talking about doing big miles but today was a slow and late start. Turns out it’s really hard to sleep in a shelter with 7+ people in the same room. Even when you’re all friends. And the weather in the morning made many of us hesitate Today I was actually so sleep deprived and my pack weighed so much I just had to take a nap mid-day maybe 7 miles in. It was a solid hour nap and I found out it’s easier for me to sleep during the day. I was joking with the gang that I would become fully nocturnal and trailname myself Nocturnis. We also keep quoting this tik tok edit that Greenman showed us “I was never Boogle, what about me… what about MY pain.” There’s like this weird AI generated animated kids movie where this dumb sounding comedic relief character that’s a fish becomes the bad guy which is like a fire wolf? The edit of it is funny I guess I don’t know this is one of the weird inside jokes the group developed. It’s like how the “My collars blue and my neck is red” tik tok song mutated in our group into “My balls are wet and my pussys dry”. Peak comedy. It honestly is like if you hang out at camp long enough in red dead redemption and they sing a bunch of dumb joke songs. It’s awesome. Anyways the highlights of the day was talking with my friend Zain on the phone (my first real phone discussion with a friend, something I want to do more often), taking an hour nap and this nice shelter by a stream, trail magic left in an old classroom historical building, and doing the road walk near Atkins where the trail went through two gas stations and one of them I ran into Scary, Gus, Motor, and Zero at. I ordered an appetizer for dinner from the Mexican restaurant attached to the gas station and it was great. Anyways walking through the small towns and cow fields today in addition to the new “green tunnel” look… and heat, I can say I really feel like I’m in a part of Virginia that’s exactly how I imagined Virginia to be like. So far I’m loving it. Hopefully I feel the same way 400 miles later when I’m still in Virginia! Hee hee hee O_0 Also I’ve been considering going home for five days before Roanoke after I do a small section with my dad. Pros: I get to work a day, see all my friends, see my dog, see my family, actually heal a bit, and the list goes on… But It’s dangerous because I could see myself getting reeled in too much and not return. I will also have to skip some ground to catch up with my friends which is worth it because I can go back and redo it. If I play my cards right I can return then do what’s called an “Aqua Blaze” where I would take a kayak or canoe in the Shenandoah valley area and camp like that. It would approximately let me catch up to them and it’s something I planned since Georgia. Anyways yup. I decided to camp at 13 miles. It’s just such a peaceful spot and there’s a bar of connection so I can finally post this the day I write it! If I do 22 miles with a terrible mountain climb at the end I get to stay at a historical shelter with an amazing view. I plan to wake up early so that if I have the strength I will also have the time. Gus and Motor went on and Green did too. Zero and Scary are a bit back in the town at a hostel. That’s all for today. I hope you have a good day/night! Sorry if I missed you in the big shoutout thing I did a few posts ago and thanks for reading
