Lightweight Fun Speedrun
Miles: 27
That’s right, 27 miles. Oh yeah. Twenty Seven whole mileroonies. How?! How was I even able to do this? Well first thing is that I’m very easily convinced by others. The second element is that the night before we realized that we were running low on food and really wanted town food like McDonald’s. Zero always comes in clutch on the phone and got us a shuttle to do slackpacking. Slackpacking is slacking with the packing. You essentially get your huge 40lbs pack driven to the hostel you plan to be that night. Then you get a small backpack with only the essentials in it. So today I only carried my water bottle, water filter, and a lunch-worth of food that can be prepped without a stove. The result is maximum speed and endurance. It almost felt like the first time you jailbreak a phone or use a GameShark on your pokemon game. Maybe I was too harsh to judge the ultra-lighters. Someday I will go ultralite. Anyways I was able to travel twice the distance than normal going almost twice the speed. I literally sprinted down hills and mountains today giggling in pure excitement. It was just pure fun and I felt so free. One of the highlights was sprinting down a mountain with 360 degree views, sun out beautiful day, listening to sonic music. Resort Island and City Escape HIT. Maybe one of my top moments of my life. Full speed, arms behind my back… I know that sounds super tistic but damn man. Can a guy have some fun? Also here’s the other stuff that happened. Two trail magics: the first one had peanut butter and jellies someone made :,). The second one was a trail engineer handing out cliff bars. Magellan also made another appearance. Green actually trail ran pretty much the entire 27 miles which is nucking futs. I was having so much fun but the miles, even at a lightweight, eventually get you. We got a hostel and pigged out on McDonald’s, fast station food, and dominoes. I had major calories to catch up on. I’m obsessed with the pizza flavored combos (they’re like pretzel things). Zero and I took these rickety bikes like two miles to a gas station from the hostel she had a tricycle with a basket in the back. Fun! And I met this cool guy with a KLR and we talked for an hour or so about motorcycles. He said he wants to put a snowmobile engine into a bike because of how the gearbox in a snowmobile gets more torque the higher gear it’s in which would be so cool in a super moto or something. He also rode his KLR from main on a motorcycle gravel route. Super cool. Also props to Italian Kurt cobain (forgot his trail name) for playing nirvana, Radiohead, and Pink Floyd songs at camp. Anyways my body is ready. Sleep. I sleep now. Also happy Mother’s Day if your reading this and your a mom. If your my mom then happy Mother’s Day again! Shoutout to my mom!
