ROAMING REESE

600 Miles

Miles: 5

Here I am sitting at the 600 mile mark. My ankle is done working correctly. I limped here but still kept a 1 mph pace. I would like to come back after my ankle heals but I know how life works and there is a nonzero chance this is my last milestones (stones are placed on the ground spelling 600 so yes, literally mile stones). Few frontiers remain in The United States that truly offer an element of unknown. Taking a chance on this journey and surrendering to that unknown has led me to amazing places and kind, caring people. America is alive and beautiful despite what’s happening in the news. You can still make new cool friends however old you are. You can still take risks and feel alive and shit in the woods. Something I wonder is if I will be any different when I get home. I’ve noticed that my emotions have been suppressed at home and I’m capable of being more sensitive . Maybe I’ll go back to just making jokes at a distance like before, but atleast I learned something about myself which wasn’t even the goal. Another thing I learned was that I could probably survive being a homeless man if the winds of fate take me to that unfortunate shore. I was only gone for two months which is funny because I remember talking to a friend at work that I’d probably go for two months and mess up my ankle… I wonder if this happens because I bend my right foot in when I walk? Anyways the goal was to have an epic adventure-vacation and I sure did. It might not be over yet either. It’s going to be hard to miss out on all the good times ahead of the shootah gang. Right before Roanoke and Shenandoah too, aw man. Since I’m missing out you guys will too sadly, alas, as I am the only scribe of ye group. I might make a few more posts in the meantime of how I’m healing or getting home and my decision to return. The internet says I’m cooked though if I have tendinitis so if I do (I do) then I hope it’s minor. Apparently some cases take weeks to months to heal. If your on the trail and your reading this then I think the mistake was working our way up to 13 miles slowly (good), then skipping the 14, 15, 16, progression and going straight to 20 miles per day. Anyways I fly home tomorrow from DC. Going from nature to the city shocked me. How did they create this from that?! You know… how did they create this megalopolis from trees and rocks? Woaaaah!!!! Holeeee sheeeeeeet! Hah okay. My trailing and blogging career is at stake but atleast I know that I physically did the most I could as of now. Anyways love ya (in not a weird way) and thanks for reading!
